Missed-call text-back: how to stop losing jobs after hours

Here is a number that should bother you: a large share of calls to service businesses go unanswered, and most people who reach a voicemail just call the next company. The fix is one of the simplest automations there is, missed-call text-back.

What it does

When a call comes in that you cannot answer, the system instantly sends that caller a text. Something like: 'Sorry we missed you, this is [business]. What can we help with? We will call you right back.' The caller is now in a text conversation instead of calling your competitor.

Why it works

  • It is instant, so you catch them before they move on.
  • Text is easy. Many people would rather text than leave a voicemail anyway.
  • It captures the lead's number so you can follow up even if they go quiet.

What you need

A business phone number that can send texts and a tool to trigger the message on a missed call. Plenty of options exist, and it can usually be set up in a day. The point is not the tool, it is that no missed call goes nowhere.

The takeaway

If you do nothing else with automation this quarter, stop letting missed calls turn into lost jobs. This one pays for itself the first week.
